Song for a Son

This is a song for a son
This is a song for a sailor
The son I never had
This is a song for a kid
This is the song for a tailor
Who stitched up my old heart
Who stitched up my old heart

This is a song for dove
This is a song for a blown up bird
The kind that don’t return to the nest
This is a song for a star
This is a song for a space invader
Who flew into the sun
Never to return
Never to return

And I am one of many, many more to come, many more to come
And I am one of many more, many more to come, many more to come

This is a song for a son
This is a song for a sailor
The best I ever had
He sailed without map
This is a song for a kid
This is the song for a tailor
Who stitched up my old heart
Who stitched up my old heart
Before I broke it all apart

And I am one of many, many more to come, many more to come
And I am one of many more, many more to come, many more to come

You daughters of the revolution
Carry back your sons
Carry them back home
You daughters of the revolution
Carry back your sons
Carry them back home

And I am one of many, many more to come

No, this has not been released on anything. Maybe it'll be on the new album...?

Thanks for the lyrics. Though a few parts...

I think it's "this is a song for a dove/this is a song for a b___ bird", rather than "this is a song for an adult...". Also, I think the "daughters of revolution" line is followed by "carry back your sons/carry them back home".

A few other little things, but I'm not too confident in them, so whatevs. Great song, btw... one of the best from SP2, and depending on the (possible/eventual) recording, maybe one of the best ever.

Lyrics below look good - however, I haven't heard the acoustic one but at the Toronto show, it doesn't have the final verse - just music after the "and I am one of many more to come" bit. That final verse may have just been a one-off thingamabob.

And I think it's "that flew into the sun" not "flew into the sun".

Great tune, definitely my favourite of the new songs. (As Rome Burns would be #2 - the rest of the new, nothing blows my socks off as much as those two.)

Anyone figured out the lyrics to this yet? I've gotten (most) everything up until the last verse talking about the revolution

here's what I have

This is a song for a son
this is a song for a sailor
the son I never had
this is a song for a kid
this is a song for a tailor
who stitched up my own eyes(?)
who switched up my own eyes(?)

this is a song for an adult
this is a song for a blown up book(?)
the kind you don't return
to the dance

this is a song for a star
this is a song for a space invader
flew into the sun
never to return
never to return
and I am one of many
many more to come
many more to come
I am one of many more
many more to come
many more to come

this is a song for a son
this is a song for a sailor
the best I ever had
he sailed without a map

this is a song for the kid
this is a song for that tailor
who stitched up my own heart(?)
before I broke it off
all(?) apart(?)
one of many
more
many more to come

*I have NO idea about this last verse*

daughters of the revolution
carry back in time
carry them back home
the daughters of the revolution
carry back in time
carry them back home
