Part of the reason is Jimmy blows my mind. He is in my opinion the BEST drummer ever. As a drummer myself he remains the single greatest influence for me. Jimmy sets the bar for my ability as a drummer; granted I will never play like him. Another great reason is that Billy is one of the greatest guitarists and song writers this world has ever seen; and that he always seems to know what the next step is and what he needs to do to raise the bar musically and spiritually. A part from the individuals the music in general is SO intericate. IT IS GENIUS! The sound of the band is layered so well. The dynamic can change from an all-out heavy rock song to a beautiful melodic sound and back again in the same song. This band is hands-down one of the most influential bands EVER. Each album seems to move in a different direction. They each have a distinct sound whether it's Mellon Collie's more progressive feel or Machina's heavier down-tuned, multi-layered guitar sound. They have hit it all. To have a confidence like this and take a chance on each record is amazing. Including taking on a full story to even go with an album; which I love. I can only think of one other band that has done this and it was after Machina. You can't but this kind of influence. This is the kind creativity and sound I look for when I'm in a band or even when I am just listening. This is why I'm a fan.
