In 1998, I was 13 years old at the time, I went on a car trip across Europe with my mother, my stepfather and my stepbrother Gonçalo. Because we had to spend many hours in the car, we had an agreement that each hour one of us picked a cd to listen to. Every time it was Gonçalo’s turn, we listened to "Adore" and, after a while, I started choosing "Adore" too. Since then I could not stop listening to the Pumpkins. Billy’s lyrics go directly to my heart and it is very easy for me, because he is such a good writer, to identify with the songs. Every song I ever heard from them touches me in a different way, and I cannot hope to listen to a new one soon because, and I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, there is nothing compared to the first time you hear a Pumpkins’ song!
I remember being fifteen and being in my couch watching mtv when a videoclip started. It was all black except for a couple of words written in white, and I remember thinking: “This sounds like The Smashing Pumpkins” and boom! That beautiful and unique voice started singing “You and me, meant to be…” I cannot explain that moment; no words can describe it… It felt like my heart was about to explode.
Anyway… why am I a fan? Give me one good reason not to!
