That '96-feeling

Back in '96 I saw them live for the first time and that felt magical. Maybe it felt like I was the only person in the world who understands what they were actually doing on stage. Of course that's b.s., but that's a very special feeling and I guess that bonds the most true fans when seeing their concerts.
When I saw their show at Brabant that feeling came back to me. After many years (with of course tremendous shows in between, for instance: the Machina tour at Vredenburg, Utrecht) a very familiar feeling of kindness en warmness came to me. That started with Porcelina and REALLY started during the second song Behold! The Night Mare. I cried because it was just so beautifully played and the song is one of my favorites.
There are two things I think why the show was one of their greatest:
1) They chose really great aggressive songs, but also the very sweet and gentle.
2) They played each song like they played it for the first time. No different versions, no other dynamics. Just how the songs ARE. That's why that special Pumpkins feeling came to me I guess.
I also think other people in their comments are right: the crowd sucked. They only wanna hear Bullet with butterfly wings and Disarm and that's sad! They've done so much more and they have so many different 'chapters'. Unbelievable that some people just hang on to a few songs ...
Anyway, I'm glad that there are also cool fans
Hope to see you at the next one!
Luck and happiness,
-Steven

The audience really sucked. There wasn't any chemistry between the music/ band and the audience. They played well though, and selected some nice songs!
Next time please avoid f*cking Brabant. Go HMH or Paradiso!

10th Anniversary

Well I have to be honest, so here we go...
This was the 10th time for me to see the Pumpkins play live ('93 first time) and despite the fact they played extremely long (longest of those 10 times actually) this was definately not the best I've seen them. Don't get me wrong, a 3 stars on the Pumpkins scale is still a lot better than most other bands will ever perform but I know they can do much better.
The first hour was just a matter of taste. They played very well but just not my favorite Pumpkin songs (well, Mayonaise was probably the best song of the evening).
The second hour was a lot better... Lot of fantastic songs (Drown!!! Tarantula, Ava Adore, Bullit and so on...) and I even got that old familiar "what-the-hell-is-going-on-here" Pumpkins-feeling... The last 40 minutes was a mix of everything... Above all, it rocked!!! Too bad they don't (and didn't) play Gossamer this tour (still waiting for the studio version, will it ever come?).
Anyway, I enjoyed it very much and I hope to see them soon for the 11th time. One thing it definately was of al those times I've seen them, the LOUDEST!!! Damn my ears...
Keep up the good work!
Ps: Please keep Daydream acoustic...

Worth the 15 year wait...

It has always been a dream of mine to see the Pumpkins perform. I was treated to Billy's solo project 2 1/2 years ago in Amsterdam (that was also wicked!).
I couldn't stop crying through Porcelina...he went for the emotional throat by starting with that one.
I did think that the sound quality at the Brabanthallen sucked though. I had to cover my ears when he did 'My blue heaven' because the piano just cut through my ears. It was set way too hard.
Billy put his all into his performance (as did the rest of the band) and you could feel the respect and love he has for his fans. 'Do unto others as you would have others do unto you too...' So true... We got a kick-ass concert and a life lesson all rolled into one!
I will never forget this concert...Thank you so much for coming to Holland...

Great gig: crowd was really bad!!

Man, do I love this band! Opening with Porcelina was awesome. Great gig, really!
But I must admit, I agree with some other comments below: the crowd sucked big time!
The major part was more interested in getting beers and talking to each other, then listening to this iconic band.
In May 2007 I saw SP in Brussels - AB: over there the crowd was much better then it was in Den Bosch…and yes then you will have two fantastic(!) encores instead of just one quick song… We did not diserve any better...

Crowd sucked

By the way, the crowd sucked. Walking through the crowd, beer stands etc. and just talking shit, not knowing most of the songs. I'm a Dutch person but I'm not like most Dutch [bad word removed]s loitering around at concerts and not actually LISTENING to the music that's played. I'm ashamed because of this country's people!!!!

Last night’s concert has had me smiling allll day today and I’m thinking this smile is going to last for a long long time. Thank you so much for an amazing show Billy!
For those of you that weren’t there – Billy was dancing, smiling, talking and screaming his lungs out for 2:45 hours – and so were we in the audience! I can’t even begin to describe how it feels to hear songs from all Pumpkins era’s being played live again, it’s like a dream.
Porcelina, Drown, Mayonaise, Today, Lily, My Blue Heaven (!!), Ava Adore, Stand Inside Your Love, Everlasting Gaze, Cash Car Star, Rose March, United States – it seemed to go on forever and ever.
And the guy that posted below me saying the crowd didn’t deserve an encore – boy is he wrong. We sure did deserve an amazing encore and we sure got it! Can’t remember ever seeing Billy dance the way he did during Lips of Sugar, in his gorgeous silver skirt and with a big smirk on his face. It was priceless.
So once again, thank you Smashing Pumpkins for brightening our lives and filling our ears and hearts with beautiful music, enchanting lyrics and plain old rock!
We can’t wait till you grace us with your presence again here in Holland!

awsome two hour+ gig in DenBosch,Netherlands

Hi all,
Saw the Pumpkins last night in DenBosch,Netherlands(of all places)...
but you're forgiven for that billy, because of an awsome gig, lasting for about 2 hours ...started at 20:30 (?) till 23:15 or about.. playing a mix of old-school pumpkins and the new thundering zeitgeist material..and even some (to me at least) new stuff...
Compared to Pinkpop festival, it was even better, the whole band as an collective was better I think... different podium design, light show and costums.. different set list.. looks like the London set-list
Starting with procelina was so immelsely good.. I think the new band members are so well intergrated..complements to Jeff...
the acoustic version of (that's the way my Love is) was very very nice, dare I say better than the CD-version.. Anybody got an bootleg? Billy's voice yesterday was the best ever.. he actually could pulloff some acapella ..
Tharantula was extremly thundering, blasting, nice guitar playing ..
I missed doomsday clock and Godsammer btw..!
Drown was great!... cann't get that solo out of my head!
Oldies like Today and Tonight could have been skipped for me, but Mayonesse was Beautiful..
Few teasers and a horrible encore.. but that's ok.. the crowed diserved no better.. I'll avoid DenBosch like the plague.. next time go Amsterdam Pumpkins!
Gtz from fellow guitar geek from Leiden!

I really enjoyed the ride tonight. Good songs, the sound could have been better, I guess the guitars were a little bit too loud, but, anyway!! Great to hear Superchrist and Bring The Light and Come On! Let's Go sounded great, too.
During Cash Car Star I was forced to leave the hall because of the way back to home. (had to drive over 100 km's by train) Anyway, great gig to never forget. Thanks Pumpkins!!!
