Review of Shows from The Fillmore
Wednesday, August 8, 2007 - 9:05 am - jonmartin
Hi Everyone,

I've written a little review of the few nights that I went to in San Francisco, and you can find it at my site: Songs That Saved Your Life. It's more a set of impressions, but there are links to lots of photos and videos I took. Be kind, please!

Saw the Pumpkins on three different nights at the Fillmore: July 18, July 30, and July 31. The July 18 set wasnt the best performance. There was a weird vibe in the air. BC seemed to not be feeling it. I mean, they gave a good show, it was great to see and hear the band perform songs I havent heard played live in over ten years. But for me, the best set was on July 30. It was pure rock and roll energy. Jimmy was all over the drums, and kept the beat constantly for over three hours. He was red hot. Billy played over a dozen different guitars, making love with his fingers to each one. I went home that night, feeling fulfilled and content. And I was never happier, until the next night, July 31st. When BC opened the show, by himself, playing accoustically these new songs he had written over the past two weeks, it was the best. It eased into the night, building on raw emotions which he had been feeling, and frankly so had some of us more devoted fans. Earlier nights when he had played these newer songs, the posers and the drunken frat boys in the audience would yell out drunken nonesense, and that really pisses me off. I came to hear the band, not to listen to you display your ignorance and lack of intelligence. The Tuesday night, July 31st set, was icing on the cake for me. The show quickly went to more harder Pumpkin songs, awesome reditions and variations of classic and rarities. Its great to have the Pumpkins back. Yes I do miss James and Darcy, but the new band, and it is a new band, is coming into its own very nicely. Thanks SP!!!!!

Awesome show, looks like they are giving it all on these last 3 shows. Setlist was OK, but the energy was amazing and the band seem to really have fun. Not sure if it's just me but it also sounded way better than the other shows I've seen. Glad to hear by starlight, muzzle, stand inside your love and rocket. Couldn't believe it when they started silverf*ck, just when you think the show is over...well it's not!
thanks guys, I wish I had a ticket for tonight...

I think last night's performance of Goassamer bumped it up to "best song ever" status for me. I think I couldn't stop grinning the whole final 15 minutes.

if you want hits - listen to the c.d !!

Billy is everything at once- completely exposed and shut, but if you listen and look you can see - brilliant, sad, angel, feeling, hopeful, evil, funny, angry, heart broken, lovable, loathing, loving, experienced, child, dark, performer, lost, enlightened, charming, cruel - and to make it all sufferable BEAUTIFUL - hypnotising, just like life, just like art.

So thank you for playing a lot of NEW material and for giving us a little taste of your soul.
